The Republic of South Sudan Is Now a DXCC Entity

DX Bulletin 28  ARLD028
From ARRL Headquarters
Newington CT  July 14, 2011
To all radio amateurs

SB DX ARL ARLD028
ARLD028 The Republic of South Sudan Is Now a DXCC Entity

At 10:18 AM (EDT) on Thursday, July 14, the UN General Assembly met to vote on whether or not to admit the Republic of South Sudan as its 193rd member state. The Republic of South Sudan was unanimously admitted and is now a member of the United Nations; a two-thirds majority is needed to become a member of the UN.

Immediately following the General Assembly meeting, the flag of the Republic of South Sudan flew for the first time in front of the UN, ceremoniously marking its membership in the UN.

Now that the Republic of South Sudan is a member of the United Nations, the new country is now a DXCC entity by way of Section II,
1(a) of the DXCC rules. The DXCC Desk will begin immediately accepting QSOs for this new entity, with a start date of July 14, 2011.

According to DXCC Manager Bill Moore, NC1L, the Honor Roll numbers move from 340 to 341 for the Top of the Honor Roll, and for Honor Roll it becomes 332. "The deadline for the Honor Roll and annual listings is December 31, so you must submit the new entity to DXCC by then in order to retain your Honor Roll status," Moore explained.

"For Logbook of The World (LoTW), you may submit all your QSOs with the Republic of South Sudan stations anytime. There is no need to hold them out of your log or do anything differently from what you already have been doing. You do not need to assign country names or identifiers. After we issue certificates to the Republic of South Sudan license holders, LoTW will make matches and assign the correct entities automatically."

As of July 14, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has not announced a prefix block for the Republic of South Sudan.

Mercaham 2011

73 y suerte!

** C2, NAURU (Update) **

Excerpts from a "C21AA Nauru DXpedition" #2 press release dated June 4th, states members of Pacific DXers are pleased to announce that 6 operators will be active as C21AA from Nauru between November 10th and December 6th, with 3 complete stations on HF as well as a dedicated 6m station. The confirmed team so far consist of Art/NJ7N, Tim/NL8F, Eddie/VK4AN, Bill/VK4FW and 2 more operators to be announced later. The press release also states, "Nauru is currently ranked at 44 on the world wide wanted list, 31 in most of EU and 19 on the wanted Digital mode list." The team fully intends to operate on CW,
SSB, RTTY and PSK31, and on all bands 160-6 meters. For logistical reasons, all equipment will be taken on same flight as "excess baggage" QSLs will be managed by Pacific DXers, with the task going to Bill,
VK4FW. QSLing is available three ways..... direct, by the Bureau or online with Paypal 'postage' support. To request a QSL, and choice/ pick the method you want to use, go to: http://www.vk4fw.com/oqrs.php
While each individual operator is responsible for their own personal expenses including air flights, accommodations, food etc..... they are seeking support to help offset other costs, such as the large
excess baggage charge, hotel room just for the radio equipment, QSL printing, QSL postage for Bureau cards, phone calls associated with planning, purchase of consumables and, most important of all... the
donation of some equipment to native Nauruan hams! A special Paypal account has been set up for support at: dxpedition@westnet.com.au  (Just add your callsign/name
and any comments in the 'comment/message' box.) All donors will be  listed on the Web site, which is still 'under construction', so the following link doesn't work yet:
http://C21.pacific-dxers.com/supporters.html
[unless anonymity preferred] PLEASE NOTE: A special memento will be sent to donors who support them with 50 USDs or more. These donors will be listed on the QSL card. Organizations that provide support
will have their logo and link placed on the Web page as well as their logo on the QSL Card [unless anonymity preferred]. SOURCE: Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin #1013

ET3AA qrv again 6m

By Hans PB2T

On 30 May 2011 the re-opening of the club station of EARS, our Ethiopian member society took place. Professor Doctor Heiko Schroeder, Head of the Technical Faculty of the University of Addis Ababa and Hans Blondeel Timmerman, President of IARU Region 1 cut the ribbon. Donations from STARS and others helped to enable the revival of ET3AA.

Led by Sid ET3SID the club installed their their shack and built antennas on top of the roof of the Technical Faculty of the University of Addis Ababa. Not an easy job, because before they could safely install equipment in the shack they had to repair the roof with flame and tar. To be allowed to do this they had to repair the water pumps of the fire extinguishing system that had not been used for almost 15 years. The team did a great job fixing it all and they now look at a station crowned by their “dream beam”, a 17 element 6-30 MHz log-periodic antenna that once belonged to one of the Embassies in Addis and that was saved from the scrapyard.

JW1EOA – Svalbard - qrv 6m June 10-15

Roar, LA1EOA will be active from Svalbard as JW1EOA between June 10-15, 2011. Roar explains:

"I will try as much as possible on the higher bands like 6, 10 and 12m. Propagation is mostly open on 15, 17 and 20 metres at this time of the year. According to my experience from previous years, bands such as  40-80 are rather bad this time of year for propagation."

ED3T (op EA3AKY)
Horas operación: 35
Categoría: SOSB 15 m HP
QSOs netos sin dupes : 1.520
Prefijos: 763
Puntos QSOs: 2.480
Promedio puntos/qso: 1,63
Total puntos: 1.892.240

Equipo: ICOM 756 pro2, ACOM 1000, yagi 4 el. Monobanda a 20 m agl.

Veremos.

Saludos a todos

Angola, C9, qrv 6m

** Angola, C9, by Andre C91UA/ZS5UA on SIX Meter  **

I have recently started working in Mozambique - grid KG64fb - and am slowly getting a 6m station together - every piece of equipment has to be smuggled in over many trips :) . In the coming week starting 1/5/2011 I will be transmitting low power PSK31 during the evenings and during weekends when not at work. 50w into dipole.
At this stage there is no allocation for 50Mhz in Mozambique so will keep the QRO (1kw into 2 6M5 yagi) for when the band opens up and hope no one complains. So if people periodically listens in my direction I
would appreciate any feedback. Kind Regards, Andre C91UA/ZS5UA

4L1AN on 6m in June

This is a preliminary heads-up to let you know that K5BM is heading over to Georgia on May 25 to join up with 4L1AN, who just received a temporary 6m permit for their operation. They hope to be QRV on JT65A
for EME during the optimum periods in June and July. The call will be 4L1AN, but the grid locator is not yet firmed up. They hope to be able to set up on the Black Sea shoreline, looking out over the sea on
their moonset. Obviously that kind of location would give them an ideal shot at Es toward EU and possibly NA too. If they can arrange that, they would be in either LN01 or LN02.

What profile have your qth?

Saludos y DX
