DX World 2012 DXpedition of the Year

http://dx-world.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/poll_2013.png

DX World provides an on-line poll in which you may vote the DXpedition of the Year 2012. If you worked D64K and you want to support 6 meters in expeditions please vote us!

I hope to work you next year in our new expedition.... more news about where we will go will appear shortly...and we will be again qrv on 6 meters and maybe 2 meters EME.

from DX World:

The long awaited DX World.net 2012 DXpedition of the Year poll is now available!
This was an incredibly difficult poll to decide on considering so many notable expeditions took place during the last 12 months. It’s conceivable that up to 40 different DXpeditons could have been nominated, however, a short-list of 26 make the poll.
In previous years the poll was limited to three or five votes. This year we have decided to allow free voting on as many DXpeditions you wish to select. In addition, to prevent repeat votes*, an account must be created using your callsign and QRZ.com listed email address. Once created you will receive an email then you are ready to vote.
The poll closes on January 15, 2013 where full results and eventual winner will be revealed. Share with friends and pass the word that the 2012 DXpedition of the Year poll is now open!
*Note: Fake, dupe or dummy votes are checked.

Thanks and 73

VK0JJJ qrv 6 meters after February 2013

This information is from VK0JJJ's qrz.com page in which Craig, VK6JJJ, explains he will be qrv from Antartica next year:

Amateur radio station VK0JJJ at Mawson Station consists of a Flex 5000A (SDR) transceiver, Emtron DX-2SP linear amplifier, MFJ - 986 Tuner, Heil PR-781 desk mic & Heil Pro Set Elite headset and a Terminated sloping triangle antenna.

I will be travelling to the Australian Antarctic Station "Mawson" by the ice breaker Aurora Australis mid January 2013 as an expeditioner on the 2012/13 Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition. I will be wintering at Mawson Station for approximately twelve months, then returning to Australia around January 2014.

UPDATE: Ship departs 17th Jan 2013 and arrives at Mawson station 10th Feb 2013.

Whilst there I hope to be active on bands from 80m to 6m with a lot of priority given to 6m operation. I plan on installing a 6m propagation beacon to monitor openings, kindly donated by David N3DB Secretary / Treasurer of The 6 Meter Beacon Project inc. (http://www.6meterbeaconproject.org/).
Modes will be SSB phone and digital modes, Satellite, 6m EME ?

Further details pending. Information will be posted here on http://www.QRZ.com / VK0JJJ

My contact details will be made available to a selected few operators on vklogger http://www.vklogger.com/ and any 6m beacon openings from Mawson station (50.300MHz) should be posted on the vklogger and these selected few operators can make contact with me and if I am available I will come on air on 50.110MHz.

Please be mindful I am in Antarctica to WORK and amateur radio is my leisure activity outside of my working hours !!

Any equipment / antenna donations greatly appreciated.

New 6 m EME station at N3XX

http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/N3XX.jpg
N3XX is a new station qrv on 6m EME, 4 x 7 el LFA with full elevation

TX5K will be qrv on 6 meters

I've just received information from Lance, W7GJ, saying he will be qrv on 6 meters. He will be qrv with 1 Kw and a 6M8GJ 8 elements antenna. I don't expect to have any F2 conditions from Europe, so the only way to work him will be using EME. This is Lance's last mail about the operation:

Well, the contributions from serious 6m DXers rolled in - MNI MNI TNX!  As a result of your support, the travel costs are already paid, and I am planning on going to Clipperton with my proven portable 6m station:

At this point, I am spending money as if I had it, shipping equipment down to California, and buying things like a $1400 generator to take on the trip. The good news is that I tested out the portable 6m station with the new 3kw Honda 110 VAC generator (the Honda 2000 would not work with my switching power supply above about 600w output), and I was able to run 1kw output on JT65A mode using my new Meanwell RSP-2000-48 power supply and 6M-1000 amplifier.  For almost 3 dB difference, I was not willing to compromise the success of the mission, so am now busy building a shipping crate for the generator.

So....please spread the word among serious 6m DXers.   I working very hard and spending lots of money to provide a serious 6m activation of Clipperton Island.   If we get any F2, I will hope to work you on that mode.  In case we do not, I am planning to be QRV for my moonrises through the European moonsets and then again for all the NA moonsets down to my moonset.   I am planning to take the two middle days off from EME and just concentrate on ionospheric prop possibilities those days, because they are unfortunately the worst days of the month for 6m EME.  The proposed tentative schedule is on the above web page, and obviously is subject to the uncertainties of weather, unloading, equipment/logistics problems, etc. etc.

However, since the best EME days during the trip are right at the beginning of the operation, I sure am planning to do whatever I can to be QRV as soon as possible after we arrive and make this a successful venture for everyone.

So, if you have been planning on assembling that big 6m yagi that has been taking up space in your garage, or wiring up that new 6m amplifier, or meaning to get that computer interface connected so you can run digital modes, this is your early warning notice ;-)  You have 6 weeks to get ready!

I don't expect to have internet capability after February 17, so I will try to post any further information before then on the above web page.  Otherwise, please just watch for me on 6m! GL and I sure hope to be able to hand out a new 6m DXCC to many of you in a couple months!

MNI TNX again for your encouragement and support!  VY 73, Lance

ZS6RI / 9J2RI now in Lesotho as 7P8RI

Amateur Radio all over Africa
ZS6RI, Chris,  is now in Lesotho were he has received 7P8RI callsign. He expects to be qrv after December 17th. I hope he will be qrv on 6 meters as he was from Zambia (9J2RI). Chris has a radio blog called 'Amateur Radio all over Africa' http://zs6ri.blogspot.com.es/

Z81D has new 6 meters antenna

InnovAntennas and the UK Six Metre Group sponsors Z81D

Glade Park, Colorado & Canvey Island, England, 2012:  InnovAntennas and the United Kingdom Six Metre Group (UKSMG) , along with some group members such as EA8AK, have helped fund the antenna setup at Z81D in South Sudan.

Diya, Z81D has had limited availability of anything other than wire antennas and decided upon InnovAntennas to help him make a bigger punch on the bands.

And also one of the soon-to-be-release DES-Dipoles which provides 3 bands (20/15/10) with a single feed point. The DES-dipole has no traps or coils either and a turning radius that would be expected from a 15m full sized rotating dipole.

The station at Z81D should be fully functional with the new antennas within the coming weeks and Dyia can be contacted via QRZ should skeds be required.

5X8C will not be qrv on 6m

Just seen in their web:

No 6m from 5X ...
Bad news today as we had a negative answer to our request for 6m. Here is the answer from the Uganda Communication Commission :
"In the case of Uganda, 6m band cannot be used because it is allocated for fixed and mobile services".
That means that 6m is just forbidden in 5X.
We are very sorry about this. But we will be active form 160 to 10m !

Well, lucky me, I have worked 5X1NH some weeks ago....

XT, Burkina Faso, qrv 6 m February-March 2013

Silvano, I2YSB and the Italian DXpedition Team will be active from Burkina Faso as XT1T on all bands and  modes  for  two weeks in February-March 2013. On 6 meters they will use their 3 el. cubical quad. Further information  is  expected  in due course.
