Albania, ZA

Albania, ZA. Chris, HG5XA, will be active as ZA/HA5X from the town of Orikum and a beach on the Bay of Vlora between June 10-24th. Activity will be holiday style, but he plans to activate some lighthouses and/or WFF locations. Please listen to the operator's comments for possible Lighthouse and WFF references, if any. Chris will also focus on some 6 meters and portable battery operations. Also, please remember that this is not a DXpedition, but a family holiday with his XYL Marta, ZA/HA9WM, and twin 5 year old daughters. Operating times will be limited and of lower priority. QSL via LoTW and eQSL. If possible, please DO NOT send QSL cards. Paper QSLs will be available both direct and by the Bureau
using the OQRS (Online QSL Request System) to be launched and announced later. Bureau cards will be sent out using GlobalQSL. (Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin #957)

Central African Rep., TL

Jan DJ8NK and Paul F6EXV are happy to announce their upcoming joint adventure as follows, Callsign: TL0A (guest operation at Christian’s station). 2 stations on simultaneously. Dates : 13th to 26th of May Modes : big emphasis on RTTY by Jan, and CW by Paul, Chris will continue his SSB operation and CW/RTTY from time to time after 26th of May. Bands: 40 through to 6m, maybe some 80/160 (late in the season for low bands, plus it is the rainy season in TL with daily storms). Standard DX frequencies, always SPLIT. QSL info: direct to qrz.com TL0A’s address. Neither Jan nor Paul will be able to confirm any contact, so we repeat, QSL info is ONLY via TL0A. We are unlikely to have internet access from the station. There will be no online log. This operation could not have taken place without Christian’s full support, help and cooperation. We already want to thank him a lot for making this possible to happen. So see you from the Central African Republic. Chris, TL0A, should definitively leave the Central African Republic in July 2010 and probably turn over to Niger (5U5U) next September. 50MHz condx report week 16/2010

Period April 19th to April 22th is usually the beginning of Sporadic E season. We have had several openings inside EU and conditions will improve every day. As I reported before, highlight has been an opening yesterday afternoon between EA3 and A9 when I worked A92IO. It was a big surprise as is not usual to have double hop so early in the season. Dave, A92IO, was in for 30 minutes with signals between 419 and 529.

F2 Layer is not improving as solar flux doesn't want to increase and has been lower than 80. More to say, sun spots have been zero quite a number of days. But there have been good openings two or three days, all them at the southern mediterranean area (nothing here, only good video signals on 48.250)

No new stations heard, seen on cluster or reported: active ones TN5SN, TR8CA, Z22JE, D44TD.

On saturday i heard C37NL calling cq on 50.110. Hope C3 club station at 1800 m asl have more activity from now on.

Forecast for next week from EA:
  • Solar flux at 75 - 85 level.
  • F2 layer Nort-South below 40N: 50%.
  • F2 layer North-South above 40N: 10%.
  • F2 layer East-West: no.
  • sporadic E: 25%.
  • multihop sporadic E: 10%.

  • Capa F2 Este-Oeste: no.
  • sporadica E: 25%.
  • sporadica E- multisalto: 10.

Worked today at 18.18 utc A92IO on 6 meters for my dxcc # 159. Think it is first A9-EA on 6m.

50 MHz condx report week 15/2010

Sunday evening and nil on the band. Solar activity has been very low this week with flux under 80s. Anyway this is The Magic Band and there has been some good openings, most below 40N latitude as usual, from EA5,EA6,EA7 and EA8 with Africa and South America. Two new stations reported this year, TL0A and 9J2BO, both well known and worked last years. More interesting is hearing again activity from Ascension Island, EA8AK worked ZD8RH on April 17th.

There has been some sporadic-E openings, on April 15th a big one between EA and EA8 did the first hop to arrive at F2 layer and EA3LL worked PP5XX.

Forecast for next week from EA:
  • Solar flux at 75 - 85 level.
  • F2 layer Nort-South below 40N: 50%.
  • F2 layer North-South above 40N: 10%.
  • F2 layer East-West: no.
  • sporadic E: 10%.
  • multihop sporadic E: no.

  • Capa F2 Este-Oeste: no.
  • sporadica E: 10%.
  • sporadica E- multisalto: no.

50 MHz condx report week 14/2010

Solar activity has been very low this week and is expected to be very
low next days, with a chance for C-class events during 07-14 April.
As Region 1059 and new Region 1061 (N14, L=232, class/area Dso/050 on 5 April)
rotate off the visible disk. Predicted values from
Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center are:

There have been 50 MHz reports from southern Europe to the usual active stations and beacons,
and interesting ones were 3B8MM and FR1GZ in southern Italy, and V51PJ and
ZS6WAB from southern Italy and southern Spain.

Nothing interesting higher than 40ºN latitude, and i don't expect any better conditions
next week if sun doesn't surprise us with an increase of activity.

This week we have seen first sporadic E reports from EA6 to YU. We may expect one
opening per week until May.

Arecibo again QRV EME 432 Mhz 16-17-18 April

info de K1JT en la lista de correo moon-net:

In less that two weeks the Arecibo Observatory Amateur Radio Club will again put the 1000-foot radio telescope on the air for 432 MHz EME.
The scheduled times of operation are:

April 16: 1645 - 1930 UTC
April 17: 1740 - 2020 UTC
April 18: 1840 - 2125 UTC

Callsign: KP4AO
Tx Frequency: 432.045 MHz
Rx Frequency: 432.050 to 432.060+
Tx power: 400 W
Antenna gain: 60 dBi
System noise temp: 120 K (cold sky)
System noise temp: 330 K (when pointed at moon)

KP4AO can be heard with a small hand-held yagi pointed at the moon, and a good receiver. A 15 dBi antenna and 100 W will be enough to work us on CW.

Operators at KP4AO will do their best to work as many stations as possible. Each session will start with a brief announcement and CQ in SSB. SSB QSOs may continue for 30 minutes to an hour, if the QSO rate remains high. The mode will be shifted to CW as soon as it is judged that higher QSO rates would result.

We will listen for calls at frequencies 5-15 kHz higher than our own, and even higher if QRM warrants. Callers who s-p-r-e-a-d o-u-t are more likely to be copied.

If you've already worked us in any mode, please do not call again -- give others a chance.

If we call "CQ QRP", we will listen for stations running 100 W or less to a single yagi. Please do not answer such a CQ if you are running more power or have a larger antenna.

On April 18, if we reach a condition where most calling stations have been worked, and we judge that operating in the digital mode JT65B would produce a higher QSO rate, we will switch to JT65B.

Note that any of these planned operating strategies may be changed as circumstances dictate.

We are extremely fortunate to have been granted access to the world's largest radio telescope for this amateur radio good-will event. We look forward to working as many stations as possible in the alloted time!

50 MHz condx report week 12/2010

This week solar activity has been low, with solar flux between 85 and 88. Conditions have remained at average level hearing from EA the usual beacons and the few active stations in Africa on 6 meters. The openings have rarely exceeded 40 degrees latitude.

The forecast for week 13 is to have solar flux at 90s, EA8 and southern EA will have conditions most days to Africa and South America. Slight improvement above 40 deg. latitude. With April starts Sporadic E season, and stations further north will be able to use this mode of propagation as a first hop to the F layer.

28-3-2010 EA to D44TD, Backscatter con CU3, EA, IS0, CT, ZB.
27-3-2010 EA8 to D44TD, LW3EX, YV1DIG, PR8ZIX/B
26-3-2010 EA to TN5SN, S9SIX/B, 9Q1D/B, ZD8VHF/B
25-3-2010 EA to TN5SN; EA8 to PP5XX
24-3-2010 EA to 6W1SJ, TN5SN, 5N7M, D44TD, 9Q1D/B, ZD8VHF/B, Z21SIX/B; EA8 to OA4B/B, 9Y4AT, 9Q1D/B, ZD8VHF/B
23-3-2010 EA to 6W1SJ; EA8 to ZD8VHF/B

AO3T en CQ WPX CW 2009

Just received the 2009 WPX CW certificate. Just to have fun i decided to put up a moxon for 10 meters and results where very good. The final result is 1st in Spain, 3rd in Europe and 4th in world!

Animaros a salir!

50 MHz condx report week 11/2010

Fb conditions all week with first transcontinental QSOs from EU, in spite that solar flux has't been high looks like every day conditions are better. From EA3 today EA3LL has done first qso with Zs6WAB (congrats Dad!) and has heard Z22JE. Also this week EA8 has worked into PY and LU, first time this new solar cycle. EA7KW worked PY too. With solar flux as low as 85, what we will work with 120-150 flux? All the world, sure! Good luck to all with DX on 6m.

"Angel at Arecibo is preparing for an operational test at Arecibo, maybe even as soon as tomorrow, Friday.

He and others in the Arecibo Radio Club have moved quickly on assembling a station, approx 500 watts, and will position closely to feed, to minimize coax losses.

He has not confirmed the frequency or a mode, or call sign used but it may be the club Call sign, KP4AO. A frequency that I earlier suggested was 432.045. I will update as soon as I know additional details.

This test is the one I want to get detailed reports on. Please take careful notes, of your setup and signal strengths received.

Best Regards,

50 MHz condx report week 10/2010

This week sun has been quite with low solar flux, and no TEP has been heard in EU.
But today the flux increased to 90 and A to 10 and the magic of the band of 6m has started again hearing ZD8VHF on 50.033 MHz in EA7 (reported by EA7KW at 21:24 UTC) . Let's see if sun activity increases a little more up and we can make some contacts from EA3 during this weekend.
