Fred, VK3DAC, will be in Norfolk Island from the 20th until the 27th May operating using the call sign VK9DAC. The trip is to do some bird watching and Amateur Radio operation. In
addition he will activate Mt Bates 314m, 4 points VK9/NO-001 for Summits
on the Air (SOTA).
Norfolk Island is considered by many as the most beautiful island in
the Pacific. It is located off the coast of mainland Australia
accessed by a 2 hour flight from Sydney or Brisbane. It is a premier bird watching destination, with many species of seabirds, ancient forests and magnificent scenery.
The equipment he will be taking to Norfolk Island is an Icom
IC706MKIIg, 20 amp switch mode power supply, an ATU/antenna analyser and
two antennas. The antennas will be a loaded dipole and a 80m dipole wire antenna. For summits on the Air activities I will be using a Yaesu FT 817 with 14v volt LiPo battery and the loaded dipole (Buddipole). He will operate on all HF bands and 6m (qrg 50.150 MHz)
