8P, Barbados, qrv 6m 7-21/11

Conditions on 6m are better every day. Today i have worked 6V7Q and heard 5N7M and C50C with strong signals s9+. Heard FR1GZ beacon for 30 minutes too, first time this sun cycle, unfortunately no one was active there today.

At 18:56 i worked C91KHN (KG64) for a new dxcc # 184, he was not strong, best at s3.

Now i'm hearing the usual ZS stations and beacons, some s9 signals with tep fluttery signals. V51YJ is now peaking s9 on 50.098. Hope some good dx to South America later...

C50C qrv on 6m

C50C has been qrv this afternoon on 6m with great signals in southern and central Europe. They didn't published were going to be active in the magic band. They are there from October 21th till November 1st and November 20th till November 29th 2011. They have been on 50.102 and 50.110 ssb.

ZD8, Ascension Isl. qrv 6m 8/11-22/11


Operators Al/W6HGF/ZD8F and Tom/K7ZZ/ZD8ZZ will be active from Garden Cottage on top of Green Mountain on Ascension Island (AF-003) between November 8-22nd. Look for Al to focus on RTTY, while Tom will provide the CW operations.Both operators will operate SSB at times, and there may be some 6 m opening opportunities. Heard also LU5FF and some more PYs with weak signals and heavy flutter. 

Latitude 41 North seems the border as i did not see anyone more to the north working SA, and EA5, EA6 and some southern EA3 were working LUs at s9. You know, some Kilometers makes a big difference...

Solar Cycle is improving as it arrives to it's maximum, so conditions should be better as we move to it, this is last chart published at NOAA web:

S9 expedition postponed until March 2012

Latest Update:  "We have been watching the solar cycle closely and it has been decided our chances of F2 propagation better by delaying until March.  We have the flexibility to move the trip without any $ penalities.  Our licenses, VISA's, airline and hotel reservations are all in order".

Plans are to be active 16-23 March 2012.

Participarán en el CQ WW DX Cw contest durante su estancia. Operarán de 160 a 6mts en Cw, Ssb y Rtty. Qsl vía DK2VW. La isla Banana se encuentra a 25 al Sur de Freetown, 30 minutos en barco.

Draconidas 2011, 8 de Octubre

En pocos días se producirá la lluvia de meteoritos conocida como Draconidas.

Las Draconidas es una lluvia anual que ocasionalmente ha producido tormentas de hasta 10.000 meteoros por hora en los años 1933 y 1946. En otros años la actividad ha variado entre 20 y 500 meteoros/hora, dependiento de si el cometa generador pasaba por su perihelio, y concretamente, este nivel máximo de la lluvia se produce siempre que el comenta cruza su punto nodal en su órbita.

El periodo orbital es de 6,6 años y su nuevo paso por el perihelio será en el año 2012.

Este año se espera que el máximo se produzca entre las 16 horas y las 21 horas UTC, con pronósticos de entre 200 y 600 meteoritos/hora.

Es una buena oportunidad para verlos o para trabajar Meteor-Scatter en 6 metros o en 2 metros.
